As S4 and S5 students, we recently had the amazing opportunity to go on a two-day cultural tour to Zhongshan and Zhuhai on 15 and 16 May 2025.
Our adventure began with an impressive drive across the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. We were amazed by this engineering marvel that connects the main cities of the Pearl River Delta.
On the first day, we visited the Zhongshan Wuguishan Hakka Tulou Cluster. It was fascinating to see the huge, circular earthen building and learn how the Hakka people lived as a community. We also enjoyed tasting traditional Hakka dishes, which gave us a real sense of their culture. Later, at the Zhongshan Museum, we saw artifacts from Sun Yat-sen's life, which connected our classroom history lessons to the real world.
On the second day, we started with a lecture at Beijing Normal University in Zhuhai, which gave us a new perspective on our region's cultural identity. The highlight for many of us was exploring HuiTong Ancient Village. Walking through the quiet lanes and seeing the 300-year-old homes felt like stepping back in time. It was inspiring to see how the village carefully preserves its history while being part of a modern city.
From the Hakka community traditions to the unique Lingnan heritage, this trip was more than sightseeing; it was a journey that connected us with our roots. We learned that history is not just in textbooks — it's in the buildings, the food, and the stories of the people who came before us. We are all grateful for this chance to learn outside the classroom and understand our culture in a much deeper way.
