S1 Life-wide Learning Day – Personal Growth Camp

Life-wide Learning Day on 7 March 2025 was an unforgettable experience, marking my first time participating as a Form 1 student.  The vibrant atmosphere filled me with excitement from the moment I arrived, setting the tone for a memorable day.

Our adventure began at a holiday camp with a series of team-building activities.  The first challenge involved stacking bricks as high as possible.  Each of us had a role, with some stabilising the structure using strings while others focused on stacking.  Although we were allowed to talk, the excitement quickly led to chaotic communication.  Our lack of coordination caused the tower to wobble and collapse. While we didn’t win, the activity taught us how crucial teamwork and clear communication are when working toward a shared goal.

The second activity tested our ability to communicate without speaking.  Divided into lines, we had to use gestures to pass the colour of a ball from one teammate to the next.  At first, the idea of miming seemed silly, but it quickly became a fascinating challenge.  Laughter erupted as we struggled to convey messages through gestures alone, and by the end, I realised how much I rely on words to express myself.  This activity helped me appreciate the importance of patience, creativity, and understanding when working with others.

The final activity was a mix of strategy and teamwork.  Divided into two teams, we raced against the clock to fit all our members through a circle made of colourful rubber bands.  The energy was electric as we cheered each other on, experimenting with tactics and supporting one another.  It was a fun and energetic way to learn about problem-solving and perseverance. Life-Wide Learning Day left a lasting impression on me.  Not only did it teach me the value of teamwork and communication, but it also helped me grow as an individual.  I learned to embrace challenges, step out of my comfort zone, and adapt to new situations.  These lessons in collaboration and personal growth have inspired me to approach future challenges with more confidence and an open mind.  This unique experience truly set the stage for an incredible journey ahead.

S2 Life-wide Learning Day – Visit to Sister School 2025

On 7 March 2025, more than 130 teachers and students from our school visited our sister school, Pingshan New Area Foreign Language School, under the leadership of our Principal, Ms Cheng.

In the welcome ceremony, we watched the wonderful performances by students of the sister school.  Student representatives from both schools introduced and shared their campus lives and learning experiences.  Our students attended classes in Chinese, English, Mathematics, History, Physical Education and other subjects to experience the learning atmosphere of schools in the mainland.  We visited the campus of the sister school and took a group photo in front of the pomegranate tree planted last year.  The pomegranate tree symbolises unity and harmony.  We wish that the friendship between the two schools would always be strong and blooming.

After having lunch at the sister school, teachers and students of the sister school accompanied us to visit the Shenzhen Science Museum.  Students from the two schools discussed exhibits in groups, shared knowledge, enhanced scientific understanding and friendship.  The learning experience was full of fun and inspiration.

This visit not only enriched students' academic and cultural experiences but also deepened the friendship between the two schools, promoted cross-cultural understanding, and laid a foundation for future cooperation.

S3 Life-wide Learning Day – Drama Appreciation

On Life-wide Learning Day, held on 7 March 2025, I along with other S3 schoolmates had the opportunity to attend a live drama performance titled ‘Rousing the Dragon’ at the Yuen Long Theatre Auditorium.  The story takes place in the Han Dynasty, circling Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei’s brotherhood as they fight against Cao Cao to restore Han’s glory.

Watching the performers act in real-time was an experience that starkly contrasted with the static nature of classroom learning.  The energy of the auditorium was palpable, and so was the chemistry among the cast.  From the moment the lights dimmed, I found myself captivated by the genuine interactions between the actors.  Their ability to seamlessly shift from light-hearted banter to suspenseful fighting scenes through subtle gestures and expressions was truly remarkable.  This ebb and flow between humour and intensity kept me fully engaged as the story came to life before me.

One of the scenes that got me particularly on edge was when the brothers encountered Watermirror — a mysterious man who advised the three to awaken the “sleeping dragon”.  As Watermirror appeared, eerie green lights illuminated the stage as wisps of smoke began to swirl around the audience, adding to the mystique of the moment.  The combination of visual effects and sound design made me feel as though I was part of the narrative, pulling me even further into the characters’ journey.

After the show, we were even invited on stage to act out poses and lines alongside the incredibly friendly actors, making it easy for us to step out of our comfort zones.  It was a unique opportunity to engage directly with the art form, reinforcing the idea that theatre is not just something to be watched, but something to be experienced.

All in all, watching “Rousing the Dragon” with my friends was an unforgettable experience beyond textbook knowledge.  The dynamic storytelling, enhanced by striking visuals and sounds, made the drama not just a performance but a compelling exploration of emotions, reminding me of the importance of resilience in the face of adversities.  I really enjoyed this hands-on learning experience, and I eagerly look forward to future opportunities of this kind.

S5 Life-wide Learning Day – Career Site Visit

The warm lights, the vibrantly coloured clay figures seated in the display cabinets and exquisite handicrafts scattered around the area were what came into view as I stepped foot into the Tsuen King Youth S.P.O.T..

On 7 March 2025, our school’s Life-wide Learning Day, twenty S5 students were beyond ecstatic to have been arranged to observe the field of Social Work and experience what it is like to work as a social worker.

As we boarded the shuttle bus, I couldn’t help but envision what the youth spot would look like.  Perhaps an office that had a brown leather couch and piles of paperwork stacked everywhere?

Upon our arrival, the scenarios I had pictured in my mind were quickly blown away as the amiable staff led us on a voyage of exploration around the Youth Spot.  Not only did the Youth Spot possess a recording studio provided with a plethora of instruments, but also an entire rock-climbing room paired with adequate sports equipment and one of the softest safety mats I’ve ever laid my feet on.

For me, the highlight of the visit was listening to one of the staff delve into the thrilling activities they bring forth — take the rock-climbing room as an example.  Adrenaline-inducing events are held in the colourful environment as participants strive to navigate the rocky path up above and ultimately ring the bell hanging on the top as a sign of victory.  Hearing about such an exhilarating competition surely kept me on the edge of my seat.

Another pivotal part of the visit was the Q&A session, where a clearer image of the career path as a Social Worker was painted onto our minds.  To this day, I can still vividly recall what he shared with us, “One of the hardest parts of working as a social worker is taking care of my own emotions.  When people vent to me, I find it hard not to sympathise with them, and the negativity just accumulates little by little.  The most challenging part was learning how to detach myself from all the thorny emotions I picked up from work.”

Overall, the trip was absolutely delightful and it certainly blew my mind.  I would hereby like to express my sincere gratitude to the staff of Tsuen King Youth SPOT for their hospitality and for providing us with the chance to grasp valuable insights into this career path.
